Cardiothoracic Surgeon with main focus on Cardiac Surgery. Main fields of interest are surgical minimally invasive aortic valve replacement without sternotomy, mitral valve repair (open and minimally invasive, without sternotomy or CPB), arterial CABG on-pump without ischemia (beating-heart) and aortic arch surgery with hybrid prosthesis.
Have been trained in Portugal and turned a Fellow of the European Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery (FETCS) in 2016.
Have introduced in Portugal technologies such as right anterior minithoracotomy for AVR with sutureless prosthesis and transapical off-pump mitral valve repair with neochordae without sternotomy or cardiopulmonary bypass – the NeoChord procedure.
Proctor for Abbott Structural Heart tissue and mechanical heart valves as well as annuloplasty rings for mitral and tricuspid repair, mainly in Middle East and Gulf region.
Founder and Course Director of Gaia Educational Program on minimally invasive aortic valve replacement and mitral valve repair.
